Are SOPA and PIPA dead?

Not at all.
SOPA sponsor Lamar Smith postponed his committee’s hearing of the bill, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid postponed a planned January 24 vote on PIPA. But each indicated that work would press forward in refining the bills.
Moreover, SOPA and PIPA are symptoms of a larger issue.
They are misguided solutions to a misunderstood problem. In the U.S. and abroad, legislators and big media are embracing censorship and sacrificing civil liberties in their attacks on free knowledge and an open Internet.

-PIPA comes up in the Senate Jan. 24th and SOPA in February.

So neither have been dropped.

I got this in my mailbox today :

Your message has been received by Senator Collins’s office. We will be in touch with you shortly if you requested a response. Your message has been reprinted below.

Mr. Johnny Johnsen:  I urge you to vote no on cloture for S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act, on Jan. 24th. The PROTECT IP Act is dangerous, ineffective, and shortsighted. It does not deserve floor consideration. We hope youll take our concerns to heart and oppose this legislation by voting no on cloture. 107.22.2.88
